Youth Education

Thanks for taking time to get to know our Youth Ministries better.  Battery Park Christian Church has a rich history of youth22 ministry. It’s wild to consider all of the lives that God has touched through the years.  The ministry still goes on! Youth Ministry is all about… a daring relationship with the caring God.

Our big plan is simple.  We start each Fall with the purpose of drawing in and gathering friends, new and old. Each week toward Christmas moves us to a clearer focus on Christ’s presence in creation and within us.  The Spring term we begin looking and preparing for how we’ll put our growing faith to work.  And the Summer is all about getting out to the community.

64 We minister to our youth in various ways through Bible study, mentoring programs, small groups and social evenings. Our youth develop a sense of comfort and maturity as they grow in faith and serve God’s church. We want our youth to know how to engage with the culture around them equipped to live out their faith in a genuine and honest way.

Sunday School Outreach

Taking the church to the people!   Every 2nd Sunday of each month the Sunday School children (Grades 3-10) plan, 65 prepare and lead the worship at Manor Care, Imperial Plaza & Westminster Canterbury for members there. They spend quality time with the church’s homebound members. They also visit in homebound members’ homes. The children lead intergenerational events for the elderly/homebound members of the church. The older youth mentor the younger kids through their spiritual maturity, biblical knowledge and Christian values.

Mentor’s Program

Youth fellowship with a spiritual twist! Our Mentor Program starts with a kick-off cook-out hyper fun event in October and ends in May. The Mentor Program is designed for new youth, (Grades 6-9) to prepare them to grow deep in their Christian faith and discipleship. Each youth has an adult mentor from the church to nurture him/her spiritually and to build a personal relationship in this process. BPCC is blessed to have caring mentors who give time, energy and spiritual guidance.
Outcome of  Mentor Program66
  • Discipleship: To provide a Christian learning experience for the youth through group building activities, Bible discussions, Mentor Zone and hyper games!
  • Intergenerational: To connect the adult church members with the youth members in building healthy spiritual and personal relationships through discussion time.
  • Peers: To develop strong bonds and friendship among the youth members through social and fun activities.
  • Family: To enrich family relationships between parents and youth through creative activities like cook-outs, movie events and social moments.

Inter-Generational Worship Service

The aim is to enriching worship experience for all ages (children, youth and adults). God is worshipped through the Youth Praise Band, creative prayers, interactive sermon, scripture Interpretation through puppets, children's sermon and children’s interactive Psalms. Rather than having a youth service, we involve our youth to participate in worship services in a deeper and meaningful way. The youth minister to all ages. Join us every 3rd & 4th Sundays of each month.

Youth CARITAS

67 Serving God's people is an important Christian value we teach our youth. Our youth plan, cook, setup beds, pack brown bag lunches and serve the homeless. Battery Park Christian church has been hosting CARITAS for over 20 years. We are blessed to have our youth apply their knowledge of Christian love and serve these CARITAS members.

Graduation Worship Service

As the school year comes to an end, we join with all our students in celebrating their educational achievements. The service is designed to celebrate the lives of our church students and high school graduates. We use stories, multimedia and people’s memories to enrich what these graduates mean to our church family. The students, graduates, and their families are blessed through this service. We continue to keep in touch with each of our high school and college graduates.

Summer Camps @ Craig Springs

110 The DOC camps at Craig Springs have been a great mission and vision-building time during the summer. Craig Springs Camp and Retreat Center is owned and operated by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Virginia and is located in far western Virginia in Craig County.  It is a beautiful place in the mountains where you can escape the world and experience God's presence in a new and powerful way. The summer camps aim to provide a meaningful Christian camping experience in a safe, welcoming environment. Our youth and adults participate in a strong way in the camping and outdoor ministry of the Virginia Region at Craig Springs Christian Camp. There are camps for all different ages as well as Nature Camp for inner city youth, and Special Camp for those with special needs.  There are also many opportunities for volunteering either as staff for a specific camp or doing volunteer work on site.111

Cynthia Butler has been motivating the children and youth to attend these camps.
