What times are services?88

  •     Scripture Study classes for all ages are at 9:30 to 10:30 on Sundays
  •     Coffee and conversation follow in the Fellowship Hall from 10:00 to 10:50
  •     Worship is at 11:00 in the sanctuary, and is usually concluded at noon.
  •     Worship on Wednesdays convenes each Wednesday at 5:30 for Soup and Bread and Study from 6:00-7:00 in the Fellowship Hall (parking lot entrance).

What is the style of worship?
Our service is mainly classical/traditional.  The organist sets the tone with lovely preludes; lay people lead prayers and readings; Dr. William Blake, our Senior Minister, gives informative, spirited, and challenging sermons; Communion is offered every Sunday and is conducted by Dr. Blake or by our ordained church member, the Reverend Moses Joshua.  Twice a month Rev. Joshua & Jerusha Moses lead a family-oriented, intergenerational, and interactive service, which has more of a contemporary ring to it (2nd & 4th Sundays).

How would you describe the Communion Service?
All churches of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) have Communion or “The Lord’s Supper” every week. They do so because the Lord of the Church, Jesus, said, when he instituted the symbolic service,“Do this in memory of me,” and the early church seems to have observed Communion every Sunday.  All who love Christ are welcome to take Communion. The deacons pass the bread and the cup, which represents the body and blood of Jesus on the Cross, and all eat and drink in unison after the minister says words of consecration.

How do people dress who attend Battery Park Church Services?
They come in their “Sunday best,” their “business casual,” or whatever they feel comfortable wearing. They seem to display some sense of “dignity” or “appropriateness,” as widely interpreted as those words are, in the “House of the Lord.”

Are children welcome in your worship services?89
Yes, they are welcome.  If your children are two years old or younger, you may choose to take them to our professionally staffed nursery.  The attendant makes the hour a pleasant learning time for infants and toddlers.  Three to five year olds may wish to remain in their class room, where they hear Bible Stories, see Bible videos, and do some crafts that illustrate something they have learned.
