MISSION STATEMENT
VISION STATEMENT We strive to be a church where people are spiritually healed, joy reigns, and the love of God is shared. IDENTITY STATEMENT Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) “We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.” To learn more about our denomination, look online at disciples.org. |
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) began as a movement in the frontier days of America proclaiming the unity of all Christians through Christ. As Disciples, we strive to remain obedient to the teachings of Jesus as found in the New Testament. Our faith is practiced in a way that seeks to be relevant and intellectually sound, reaching out to others and promoting spiritual growth for all. Individuals are given the freedom to hold their own opinions while being encouraged to take responsibility for Bible study. Using head and heart and hands are all important as we seek to grow into the fullness of Christ.
It has been said that the first time people visit, they are guests, the second time friends, and the third time family. Officially people are brought into membership through confession of faith and baptism or through transferring their membership from another congregation. Baptism is practiced by immersion for those who have reached a point in their life to make a confession of faith. All forms of baptism are accepted for those transferring their membership.
Our worship is centered around the celebration of Communion at the Lord's Table, which is celebrated weekly, and all who believe in Christ are invited to participate regardless of church membership. Our style of worship is a blend of traditional and contemporary and our congregation reflects the diversity of the neighborhood. We often hear of the warmth and acceptance that are felt by those worshiping with us.
History
There is a short history about our sanctuary published in a book about Richmond churches.
